Choosing an absorbency
Use the lowest absorbency that handles your flow. Higher is not better — an over-absorbent tampon dries the vaginal wall and makes removal uncomfortable.
- Regular — Tampax Regular 20-pack, Rs 1,350. The right starting point for light to moderate flow.
- Super — Tampax Cardboard Super 20-pack, Rs 1,450, for moderate to heavy days.

Tampons — common questions
- How long can a tampon stay in?
- No more than 8 hours, and change every 4 to 6 hours in normal use. Leaving one in longer raises the risk of Toxic Shock Syndrome, which is rare but serious. Never sleep longer than 8 hours with one in.
- Which absorbency should I choose?
- The lowest that copes with your flow. If a tampon is uncomfortable to remove after 4 hours, or comes out only partly soaked, the absorbency is too high for you.
- Can a virgin use tampons?
- Yes. A tampon can stretch the hymen but this is not the same as losing virginity, which is a social idea rather than a physical state. Many first-time users find a regular absorbency with an applicator easiest.
- Can a tampon get lost inside?
- No. The vagina ends at the cervix, which is far too small for a tampon to pass through. If you cannot find the string, relax, squat, and reach in with clean fingers — see a doctor if you still cannot remove it.
