Majoon, Safoof, Laboob and Tila — what the format means

Qarshi's naming follows traditional Unani preparation formats, which is useful to know before choosing between products that otherwise sound similar.

  • Majoon — a semi-solid paste or electuary, taken directly or dissolved. Majoon Ard Khurma and Zarjam are two of the range's main ones.
  • Safoof — a fine powder, usually mixed into water or milk. Safoof-e-Jarian and Safoof-e-Mughaliz are the two stocked here.
  • Laboob — a rolled or shaped confection, similar purpose to a Majoon in a firmer format. Laboob Kabir and Bard Nuqrai are the pair in this range.
  • Tila — an oil, applied externally rather than taken.
  • Capsules — Qarshi's more modern format for the same traditional formulations (Rahat, Shahi, Protone).

Qarshi is one of Pakistan's oldest herbal manufacturers, with a lineage back to Hakim Muhammad Hassan Qarshi and formalised as a company in 1971 — its mainstream products like Johar Joshanda and Jam-e-Shirin are in most Pakistani households, which is the real reason to trust the manufacturer even on a less familiar line. As with Hamdard, these are traditional herbal preparations, not licensed medicines — pack size (small vs bulk) is a value decision, not a strength one.

Qarshi — common questions

Are Qarshi products licensed medicines?
No. Qarshi preparations are traditional Unani herbal products, sold and regulated as such. They are not licensed medicines and are not intended to diagnose, treat or cure any condition.
Is the 500g jar the same as the 100g?
Yes, identical formula — only the quantity differs. The larger jar is usually close to half the price per gram, so it makes sense once you know a product suits you.
Which Qarshi products are for external use?
The Tila oils — Tila Muqavi Shahi and Tila Musakan — are topical only and must never be swallowed. Everything else in the range is taken orally as directed on the pack.
Can I take Qarshi products with prescribed medicine?
Ask your doctor first. Herbal preparations can interact with prescription medication, which matters particularly during pregnancy or breastfeeding, or if you are treated for diabetes, blood pressure or a heart condition.
