Almost every condom box says electronically tested, but few explain what that phrase is actually describing. Here is what happens before a condom ever reaches a shelf.
Electronically tested is printed on almost every condom box you will find on a shelf in Pakistan. It shows up so often that most people stop noticing it, let alone knowing what it actually describes.
What the test actually does
Electronic testing passes a small electrical current through each condom during manufacturing. A pinhole or tiny defect, invisible to the naked eye, changes how that current passes through, and the machine flags it.
A condom that fails this check is rejected before it ever reaches packaging. It does not make it into a box that gets sold.
How this is different from burst testing
Burst and leak testing is a separate process. It checks a sample from each batch for overall strength, stretching the condom under controlled conditions to confirm it meets WHO and ISO standards for that batch as a whole.
Electronic testing checks individual condoms for physical defects. Burst testing checks batch level strength and reliability. Both happen, and both are part of why a legally sold condom in Pakistan can be trusted regardless of brand or price point.
Why this phrase became so common
Because the testing itself became a standard part of manufacturing across the industry, the phrase ended up on nearly every legitimate box as a simple way of signalling that the product went through it. It is not a marketing gimmick specific to one brand.
What this means for you as a buyer
Seeing electronically tested on a box is a reasonable, basic confirmation that a product went through standard quality checks. It is one part of a bigger picture that also includes proper storage and checking the expiry date yourself, not a replacement for either of those.
