Ribbed, dotted and studded condoms are marketed almost interchangeably, but each texture sits in a different place and does a different thing.

"Which is better, ribbed or dotted" is close to the wrong question — they're not competing for the same job, and most brands now put both on the same condom anyway. Here's what each texture actually does.

Ribbed

Raised bands running around or along the condom. Felt mainly during motion, as a change in friction rather than a constant sensation. Touch Ribbed Condoms (5-pack) and Klimax Extacy Plus Double-Contoured Ribbed are straightforward examples if you want to isolate the effect before trying a combination pack.

Dotted

Small raised points spread across the surface rather than lined up in bands. Reads as a more even, constant texture rather than a directional rub. Josh Dotted, Sathi Danedar Dotted and Touch Dotted are common local packs.

Studded

Larger, more pronounced raised points — a stronger version of dotted, and less often sold on its own. Feel Stud Studded Condoms and Rough Rider Studded Condoms are dedicated studded packs; Klimax Sensual Ribbed & Studded and DO 3-in-1 Ribbed, Dotted & Delay combine textures with a delay lubricant in one product.

Texture is not a lubricant substitute

A textured condom used without enough lubricant feels rougher and more likely to catch, not more stimulating — the texture is meant to add sensation on top of a well-lubricated surface, not compensate for a dry one. If a textured pack feels uncomfortable rather than pleasant, check lubrication before assuming the texture itself is wrong for you.

Picking a starting point

If you've never tried a textured condom, a single-texture pack (plain ribbed or plain dotted) is easier to judge than a combination pack, since you're isolating one variable. Once you know which texture you actually notice and like, the combination packs make more sense.
