A condom that slips is too loose; one that pinches is too tight. Here is how to tell the difference and what to actually try next.
Fit problems are common and fixable, but the fix depends entirely on which direction the problem is in — too loose and too tight need opposite solutions, and it's easy to guess wrong.
Too wide: the slipping problem
If a condom feels loose, moves noticeably during use, or has slipped down or off entirely, it's most likely too wide for you. This is the more commonly reported issue and the more urgent one to fix, since slipping directly undermines protection. The fix is trying a snug-fit or contoured line, or a different brand's standard width — width varies slightly between brands even within the same "standard" category. See our full condom size guide for how to measure your actual width before guessing at a fix.
Too narrow: the pinching problem
Constricting discomfort along the length of the shaft — not just normal tightness at the base, which is expected — usually means the condom is too narrow. This is less common with standard local brands (most run a similar width band) but can happen. If a specific brand consistently feels tight, trying a different brand's standard width, rather than assuming all condoms will feel the same, is the first thing to try.
Not actually a sizing problem: application issues
Some things that feel like a fit problem are actually application errors. Rolling on unevenly, air pockets trapped at the tip, or not leaving space at the tip for fluid can all cause discomfort or feel like a bad fit even when the size is fine. Pinch the tip to remove air before rolling down, and roll evenly rather than pulling it into place — both fix common "it doesn't feel right" complaints that have nothing to do with width.
The practical path
Slipping → try narrower/contoured. Pinching along the shaft → try a different brand's standard width. Neither, but still uncomfortable → check application technique before assuming a sizing issue at all.
